The super fans of Guitar Hero over at scorehero.com have created a list of all the custom songs created by their forum users. Such songs include some always wanted ACDC songs, Stairway to Heaven, some Metallica, Jimi Hendrix’s All Along the Watch Tower and National Anthem, some video game songs, and, of course, the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Theme Song.

The main forum topic is here, and I have chosen some videos of the homebrew Guitar Hero 2 songs in action:

All I can say for this one is: “Go Go Power Rangers!”.

Jimi Hendrix’s “National Anthem” is still by far one of the more patriotic, loud, and amazing guitar solos or guitar performances to date. This is a great selection for Guitar Hero 2, and should have been in the game in the first place.

Here is a song someone added because they love Journey, and also loved this epic song from the past. All about a small town boy and a city girl taking the midnight train going anywhere. This song has some nice guitar work and a good solo, and overall would be fun. Check out this video of “Don’t Stop Believing”

The good thing about these homembrew songs is that anyone can choose any song that they want to play. I know that I would want to play a lot of songs, and Metallica’s “One” is definitely a guitar song that I would love to play. Here it is:

The simplicity of this hack is useful for people with skills and stuff, but it is not for everyone. Ask your doctor if scorehero.com is right for you.

While an option to have the computer convert your MP3s into GH tracks would be great, it’ll never happen. The studios are insanely protective, and would want you to buy the tracks as downloads to do it. Never mind if you already own it.

Some TV shows are delayed in becoming DVDs because they use music for their soundtracks and would have to relicense the songs for that use. RIAA wants as many bites at the same apple (a song) as they can get.

Most probably, rolling your own GH tracks will remain a hackers province.

Well, the actual process of adding custom tracks isn’t easy, it takes a good amount of time. Also, creating a software application that could streamline the steps that must be taken would really be a difficult task.

So yes, this will most likely continue as a custom game mod. I am actually really excited for the Xbox360 version of Guitar Hero, since it is already USB. With the possibility of compatibility with Guitar Zero or Frets on Fire (besides the obvious use of emulators), this could become a very good thing.

You need to follow the link provided in the post. The process isn’t extremely simple so I would recommend using the forum for all your questions. It would be a lot to describe without having an open forum on it. Just go to scorehero.com, they will help you out.
